Ares Doesn’t Connect?

Posted on Sunday, July 5, 2009 in Ares

As a blogger, I get to see a lot of the world’s problems typed onto a computer screen. One of the problems I see a lot of music sharing blogs at the moment is to do with the apparent failure of the Ares network. This failure seems to be intermittent, and fairly short lived, but no less annoying for its brevity.

People have tried many things to get around this apparent failure, but none have been entirely successful. Apparently the only way to ensure you connect every time, is to be really, really patient. Patience is something that not many Ares music sharing fanatics have lots of, so this “solution” is a little hard to swallow.

So, I did a little Google search. It’s amazing how Google can help in these situations. Once again, the big G came to the rescue.

I found a piece of software called Ares Connect which was designed by Ares enthusiasts purely for the purposes of making their clients connect consistently. It is designed to work alongside whichever client you are using, so Ares Connect does not replace anything you’ve already got on your system. Good news for people who have found their perfect client already.

I downloaded Ares Connect and tried it out. Looks good. Ares Connect is easy to install and to set up, and best of all it seems to work. I installed three days ago and have not had a problem connecting since. Yes, this may all be a coincidence, but I’ve never had a run of three days without problems before, so the likelihood of it not being due to the calming influence of Ares Connect is diminishing rapidly.
